My family decided my senior year of high school to move all the way to St. Edward, Nebraska, to be closer to family. I was devastated. All of my friends… my achievements… my everything would be left behind. It was my senior year, for crying out loud! I wasn’t a bad kid. I’d never thrown a temper tantrum or anything growing up but… this was too much. All I could think about was my prom and walking across the stage. I couldn’t do that at a new school. I didn’t know anybody. It was awful. I was so infuriated by my family that I didn’t talk to them for a week straight. Eventually they came to realize how important my senior year at my old high school was and apologized for taking me away. They explained how important family was, though, and that this had been their only chance to be close. I could understand their side of the ordeal, so I decided to forgive them. It still sucked that I had to get to know a brand new school, though. My dad made up for that when he got me “a surprise” however. He said I was being very mature about the whole thing and that I deserved a brand new iPhone. I was so excited, I couldn’t believe it. My very own iPhone! I was happy that I forgot (almost) all about my school situation. And it’s a good thing I had that phone, too, because it was the closest thing I had for the first couple weeks of school. I took photos at lunch to pass the time and recorded myself acting goofy because I didn’t have anyone to talk to. One day a group of girls came up to me and asked what I was doing. I explained everything, thinking they were going to laugh at me but, to my surprise, they thought it looked like fun. They started doing it too. We got to talking and quickly became friends – all of us. Unfortunately though, we went outside to get more light for our goofy pictures and one of the girls tripped. She landed right against me, which knocked my phone out of my hand and fell onto the pavement with a loud smack. I picked it up and noticed that it had a long crack right down the middle of the screen. The girl apologized, but it was okay. At least I’d made friends. And besides, I knew my dad would know what to do. I went home and told him about it – sure enough, he suggested I go online and find a video i-pod battery company he’d heard of that could service an ipod and specialized in Apple iPhone LCD replacements. I found one, sent in my phone, and got it back from the iPhone repair shop just a few days later – good as new!
