I’ve been a police officer here in Maple Grove, Minnesota, for almost twenty years now. At first the job was difficult – just because it was so boring – but as I got older I began to realize more and more how much I should appreciate that fact. I could only imagine the kinds dangers that my fellow officers face in places like New York City. But anyway, I had decided one summer that I should reward myself for the – almost – twenty year mark. I could officially retire at that day (even though I had no plans to do so), so I went out and splurged on a brand new iPhone – just for the fun of it. I got home and started programming all of my numbers and important information into the device, reveling in the new technology and taking advantage of the built-in camera as well as video camera. I experimented with my dogs, shooting photos of him outside and even recording one movie. I realized early on just how much I loved that phone. It was so convenient and so much fun! I really enjoyed it. It didn’t take long for something to happen to it, however. I was at work when I got a family disturbance call. An elderly couple had gotten into a fight, so I went out to try to calm them down. When I got there, I realized they weren’t quite so elderly. They were maybe sixty or so years old, outside on their front lawn screaming at each other. I approached cautiously and asked what the problem was. The man was shouting about incompetence and the woman explained that the man had cheated. Uh oh. I tried to control the situation but the man lost – more – of his temper and actually tried to slug me! He caught me right on the chest, over the front pocket where I kept my iPhone. The phone was crushed and I was mad now. When I checked the damage, I realized he had actually cracked the screen. Oh yeah… I was mad now. I took him in for assaulting an officer but… eventually we got things sorted out. His wife came down to bail him out he was let off with a warning. I, on the other hand, had to focus on getting my broken iPhone fixed. I got online and began researching the different companies advertising batteries ipod, finally deciding on one that specialized in Apple iPhone repair. It only took a few days for them to repair my poor phone. I got it back and opened the box, expecting to see… something. Some mark, somewhere, as evidence of what had happened. Thankfully, there was nothing however. My phone was as good as new!
