Yoga to Improve Strength?

Thursday, March 4th, 2010

For any regular exerciser, yoga is a must because it gives you the strength and stability that your body needs for balance. If you regularly run or lift weights, you’ll be happy to start integrating yoga into your regular exercise plan to promote flexibility and even more strength. If you don’t know where to begin, try out the Yoga Stretch iPhone app, which gives you five different yoga sessions to work with. You can program your own music from your iTunes list, which allows you to make a perfect yoga music playlist for relaxation.

These yoga postures will improve balance, strength, and flexibility, and the app works as your own personal yoga instructor. There is even audio commentary available to give you further guidance in executing all of the poses correctly. The pre-loaded Yoga Session works with 60 minutes of different yoga poses for stretching and relaxation. You can also turn on or off the commentary that tells you to transition in all of your poses. The bottom line is that this is the opportunity you have been looking for to enhance your workout and get even greater results in strength. Until you try yoga, you may not realize that yoga is harder than you think!

Get Slim With Pilates

pilates-benefitsAre you one of the many who is now into the Pilates craze? I definitely am, and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a more interesting way to get fit! Pilates actually started in the early 1900s, but as you can tell, it has gotten much more popular in the past few decades. My primary guess would be because more celebrities are practicing the exercise, so it has more notoriety and fame than ever before.

The creator was Joseph H. Pilates, go figure – so that’s where the name came from! He designed the exercises to rehabilitate the body and work to exercise the muscles deep within the core, which is the spine and abdomen area. This was pretty different from weightlifting, which focused more so on the outer muscles and appearance because Mr. Pilates wanted to work the inner areas of the body to lengthen and strengthen the look of the individual overall. He also used targeted breathing to make the exercises effective and help to relax the body, so it can be seen as a strengthening version of yoga to slim you down. Check out your local gym for any classes that may be offered to try out Pilates and see if it is right for you!
