I have always considered myself to be the advanced version of a musical library because I know so much random trivia. I don’t know why, but musical knowledge over the years has truly stuck with me, so I can always tell you which 80s band sang which random 80s song, and so on. In fact, whenever my friends and I go out to listen to live music, I can normally tell within the first few bars if it is a cover of Janis Joplin’s “Bobby McGee” or some other obscure song. I guess you could say that the iPhone application Shazam is my nemesis because it is something that you can hold up to any type of music, and it will tell you the artist, song, and album that comes from. This is a really cool feature, but it also is depressing for someone like me who prides herself in knowing a ridiculous amount of random music trivia. I guess I can learn from Shazam because it can tell me some songs that I don’t even know, which I can later use to impress my friends in the right context.
