I have always been a fan of red wine, but it wasn’t until recently that I read that it is able to make you stay young! A girlfriend of mine and I were talking about this when we went out to get a couple of drinks, and we didn’t know if red or white wine was better for you. I decided to Google this information on my iPhone while we were out to settle the debate, and it turns out that red wine wins.
You are recommended to drink a glass of red wine with a meal so that your body can absorb it slower for five days a week. This is supposed to reduce illnesses, like diabetes and a heart attack. The alcohol within the red wine does soothe inflamed arteries, but red wine also contains flavenoids, which are antioxidant ingredients that can protect the body. One of the biggest benefits to drinking red wine full of antioxidants is the fact that it can protect your cells underneath the surface and neutralize free radical damage. This is one of the biggest components to staying young because it will prevent fine lines and wrinkles from forming. I’ll drink to that!

A friend and I were having a lively debate about whether or not pork rinds were bad for you. We were shopping together in the grocery store to buy some snacks for a football game, when she desperately wanted to buy pork rinds. I knew that she was trying to stick to a healthy diet, but she claimed that they were a healthier snack. I decided that the only way to settle this fight was to look up the nutritional information on my iPhone.
I was thinking that pork rinds were bad because they were made from pig skin and deep fried. I don’t know about you, but that sounds like a pretty gross combination. As it turns out, I had to eat my words (and the pork rinds) because she was right. If you do eat a one ounce serving of pork rinds, they have zero carbohydrates and 17 g of protein. That is a much better ratio than you would be able to find in any bag of chips, and 43% of the fat in pork rinds is unsaturated. They also contain some of the healthy fats that are found in olive oil. I was pretty surprised to find out that pork rinds are a “healthy” junk food!

Who doesn’t love Starbucks? It is an incredibly popular coffee chain in America, and I normally find myself stopping there on the way to work in the morning. I will text several of my coworkers on my iPhone, and they will text me back their coffee orders. This makes me pretty popular in the office because I always bring coffee for everyone.
Anyhow, I was noticing that a lot of the frozen coffee drinks on the menu at Starbucks seemed really fatty. I decided to look up the calorie information on my iPhone, and I almost wish that I hadn’t done that! I was going to order the Strawberries & Creme Frappuccino in a large size, and I found out that it had almost 600 calories! It also contains 30 teaspoons of sugar, which made my stomach turn a little bit. From that point on, I was scarred for life, so I decided that I would be much better off drinking the light frappuccino blends that they have available on the menu. I never thought that there was that much of a difference, but the light drinks are almost 500 calories less. Definitely something to think about if you are a Starbucks lover!

One iPhone application that I absolutely love is Read It Later. Let me start out by saying how much I love my iPhone and all of the applications that come with it because there really seems to be an application for everyone! Read It Later is really cool because it lets you store any website that you were on to mark it to be read later. For instance, if you were shopping for a bunch of different items, then you could mark specific websites to read later. You can also mark them for off-line reading, if you want to read from your home computer.
Users have said that this is a pretty tricky application to set up, but it is helpful to bookmark specific sites and articles. If you were looking at a certain article online and simply didn’t have the time to read it, then all you have to do is use Read It Later to do exactly that. This will allow you to mark and save a specific website so that you can go back to it at a later time. This is especially helpful if you had found an article that you wanted to read on your iPhone and wanted to save it to read later at home on your laptop.

I have always considered myself to be the advanced version of a musical library because I know so much random trivia. I don’t know why, but musical knowledge over the years has truly stuck with me, so I can always tell you which 80s band sang which random 80s song, and so on. In fact, whenever my friends and I go out to listen to live music, I can normally tell within the first few bars if it is a cover of Janis Joplin’s “Bobby McGee” or some other obscure song. It is an impressive skill, which I use to my advantage, that is, until I discovered Shazam…
I guess you could say that the iPhone application Shazam is my nemesis because it is something that you can hold up to any type of music, and it will tell you the artist, song, and album that comes from. This is a really cool feature, but it also is depressing for someone like me who prides herself in knowing a ridiculous amount of random music trivia. I guess I can learn from Shazam because it can tell me some songs that I don’t even know, which I can later use to impress my friends in the right context.

Lunch is absolutely my favorite time of day, and did you have any idea that you can now order your lunch directly online? This seems to be the way of the future. I will tell you the truth, I normally will take my lunch with me to work, unless I don’t have time and am forced to buy fast food. However, some people in my office did start ordering their lunches online, so they didn’t even have to lift a finger, and the lunches were delivered to them directly.
Actually, they did have to lift one finger to click the mouse to get their lunches ordered, but that was about it. I decided to weasel in and get in on the action, and I actually started ordering my lunch directly on my iPhone. They order from a little place down the road that has a bunch of different sandwiches, salads, and soups for lunch. I started getting on the website via my iPhone and ordering my lunch myself. This is such a convenient option, especially for someone who wants a fast and delicious lunch. I’m getting pretty sick of fast food myself, so I was more than happy to find this advanced and wonderful option available to me in lunch delivery!

This is going to sound like a cranky old man blog post, but I absolutely hate spam. I conduct a lot of my business when I’m out and about, so my iPhone is like my right hand. I can’t tell you how inconvenient it is when I am trying to look up information regarding a client that I’m about to visit, and then I only have an inbox full of spam. On top of that, can I vent for a little bit and talk about spam filters?
Every reputable e-mail system does need to have spam filters set in place so that you do not receive Viagra junk e-mails over and over again, but the inconvenience that this has caused me is that I often will have a client’s bulk e-mail go directly to my trash so that I never receive it. This has made me paranoid so that I check my trash all the time to make sure that I don’t mess up on an interaction with a client, but I absolutely hate the fact that it has to be this way. Who started spamming in the first place? We should find that person and shoot them because I hate having to deal with spam on a daily basis!

I’m getting very excited for the new fall lineup, and I have been watching all of the new previews everyday before work on my iPhone. One cool preview for a new fall TV show that I watched recently is Glee, which I have to admit that I was skeptical about at first. I don’t always know how I feel about high school shows because the characters are usually unbelievable, especially since they are much older than high school in real life. However, I was impressed by this show when I was watching the first teaser episode on my iPhone because it has a lot of fun music, which is something that always grabs me.
Even though these kids are supposed to be in a dorky glee club, they sing a lot of popular songs, so it makes the show pretty interesting. I think I am going to end up being addicted to this show after all, especially from what I have seen when I downloaded it to my iPhone. That is all part of the fun of the fall lineup because you get to check out new TV shows to see whether or not they float your boat. I’m just glad that I have an iPhone to watch them on!
